Living With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) affects patients in different ways, and at present there is no cure. Consequently, it is difficult to reduce the treatment approach to a simple strategy or formula. But there is no question that it begins with an understanding healthcare provider who is willing to listen to and validate a patient's symptoms. The goal of an effective treatment plan is to develop strategies that improve overall function and well being rather than focusing on individual symptoms. In this regard, the physician's role often is one of coach or facilitator. The most successful outcomes tend to result when patients and their healthcare providers work together to determine which interventions work best.
