"Allergic" Symptoms

Patients with fibromyalgia display a wide array of "allergic" symptoms. For instance, many patients with fibromyalgia meet the requirements for "multiple chemical hypersensitivity syndrome" because they have bad reactions to a number of drugs and other substances in their environments. Reactions also can occur in response to loud noises, bright lights, and other triggers not usually related to allergies or chemicals. In these cases, it is likely that the nervous system's "volume control" is turned up too loud to process sensory information comfortably.
